Window Restoration

  • Types: Double-hung, single-hung and triple-hung windows; casement windows, steel windows, arched windows, transom windows, hopper windows, leaded glass windows, lunette windows, bay windows, dormer windows, sunroom windows… really any historic wood or steel window!

  • Full Restoration: Restore historic windows to a "like new" condition. This includes fully renewed functionality of sash cord and pulley system and minor epoxy repairs to address damaged wood. Once completed, windows will have crisp, clear sight lines and a smooth, professional finish that will highlight the timeless beauty of your historic windows. Full restoration comes with a 5 year guarantee.

  • Tune-up: Addresses mechanical function of rope and pulley system (if double hung) and removes paint build up on sash, jambs and stops to restore ease of opening and closing windows.

  • Broken glass repair: using glass of client’s choice including historic wavy glass, Low-E glass, tempered glass, or regular clear glass.

A typical full window restoration will include:

  • Remove sash from frame and transport to shop

  • Secure openings while restoration occurs with either plywood or heavy plastic

  • Strip jambs of built-up paint using Lead-Safe practices

  • Prime and paint jambs

  • Replace sash cords/chains and tune-up pulleys

  • De-glaze sash completely using steam technique

  • Remove and clean all glass, replace any broken glass with new or wavy glass

  • Strip sash to bare wood using Lead-Safe practices

  • Repair any structural or aesthetic damage to sash

  • Oil-prime

  • Bed glass in Sarco glazing compound for rattle resistance and efficiency

  • Re-glaze window

  • Restore all original hardware; remove paint and polish

  • Apply weatherstripping, silicone bulb on sashes, t-track and/or spring bronze at jambs to greatly improve energy efficiency and stop drafts

  • Apply custom finish on interior and exterior

  • Install sash to operate as originally crafted

Full restoration takes 8-9 weeks from removal to installation. During the process window openings are covered and secured.
